I used to want to write songs for a living.
For a little over a decade I pursued that goal with a 4 piece band in an old van zigzagging across most of the southwest and all of Texas. Along the way, I had the kind of life experiences you hear about in road songs and found a handful of generous and passionate mentors who taught me how to hone my craft. I left the road for another chapter as a Kindergarten teacher in my hometown of Fort Worth, but, I continued to write songs and find myself developing a voice more distinctly me than any time I was touring.
Over the pandemic, I caught the bug again and performed as a weekly participant in an online cover song series on Facebook Live called "Sequestered Songwriters". As a group we developed a very large online following and started a non profit to support fellow singer/songwriters in need of emergency aid.
Now I live in Albuquerque following another passion as a partner in a craft cannabis micro production and general cannabis entrepreneur. It's been a big adjustment but the Burque has grown on me and the new experiences are making their way into my writing.
Instead of writing songs for a living, my new goal is to keep writing songs as long as I am living.
